'Here’s what there aren’t pictures of from the last year: me crying in the car talking to my mom about how much anxiety and how many symptoms of OCD I was experiencing.'
on Thursday, May 28, Camila revealed a lot about her inner battles. Throughout the essay, she lifted the curtain of social media, where highlight reels and curated photos make it appear that all is joyful in Camila's world when truthfully, that's not always the case.
"Here’s what there aren’t pictures of from the last year: me crying in the car talking to my mom about how much anxiety and how many symptoms of OCD I was experiencing," she wrote. "My mom and me in a hotel room reading books about OCD because I was desperate for relief. Me experiencing what felt like constant, unwavering, relentless anxiety that made day-to-day life painfully hard.
Her essay marked an especially candid moment for the "Havana" singer, and she admitted to being hesitant about opening up about her OCD and anxiety in the past. "I didn't want the people who thought I was strong and capable and confident — the people who most believed in me — to find out that I felt weak," shein the essay. "The little voice in my head was telling me that if I was honest about my mental health struggle and my internal battles , people would think there was something wrong with me, or that I wasn't strong, or that I couldn't handle things.
Camila continued by explaining that the key to fighting her internal battles was taking ownership of her mind, body, and life — and learning that there was nothing shameful about struggling with mental health. On social media, Camila's fans thanked the singer for being so open, with many noting that her honesty helped them feel less alone.
