The new and logically named CXA81 Mk I has been developed to make the most of the new possibilities opened up by the ESS ES9018K2M SABRE32 Digital-to-Analog Converter. The ESS ES9018K2M is a new DAC and Cambridge Audio claims its use will mean the CXA81 Mk II offers reference-level capabilities and an “outstanding sonic resolution, no matter what the digital source.
” To boost the CXA81’s already revered sonic performance, Cambridge’s engineering team has re-tuned and refined the sound of the CXA81 Mk II. To do this, the team used ten new premium components in the circuitry. The company claims the result means the amplifier has even greater clarity and musicality.The CXA81 Mk II uses the classic combination of Class AB amplification powered by a hefty toroidal transformer. If it’s anything like the excellent CXA81, it should sound superb and offer even more musical detail. For digital sources, there is a choice of TOSLINK, Coaxial and USB Audio connections. The CXA81 Mk II Integrated Stereo Amplifier joins Cambridge Audio’s recently launched CXN100 Network Player, a major upgrade to the well-regarded CXN V2 player.
