Detroit Lions legend Calvin Johnson Jr. will officially join the Pride of the Lions.
The Detroit Lions have had many iconic players, like running back Barry Sanders and quarterback Matthew Stafford. However, one of the most dynamic players to ever suit up for Detroit is Calvin Johnson Jr.

Simply put, Johnson was a unique pass catcher, having length, speed, strength, and leaping ability.One of the most iconic photos is from the Lions' 2011 season, when Johnson was lined up at the goal line against two New Orleans Saints defenders. Johnson would often pull double teams simply for how dominant he was as a receiver. Though he never secured a Super Bowl, he is a Hall of Famer, and will now be added to the Pride of the Lions.The Lions announced that Johnson will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor during halftime on Sep. 30 when Detroit faces off against the Seattle Seahawks.Johnson came into the league in 2007 when he was taken by the Lions No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft. Though he only secured 756 yards and four touchdowns his rookie year, it wouldn't take long for his legend to begin.In 2008, Johnson exploded even more, bringing in 1,331 yards and 14 touchdowns, which led the league for wide receivers. He would secure over 1,000 yards in seven of his nine seasons in the NFL. In the 2012 season, Johnson would secure 1,964 passing yards, which still stands as an NFL record.Through his nine seasons in the NFL, Johnson would secure three-time First-team All-Pro honors, one Second-team All-Pro accolade, and six-time Pro Bowl honors, while emerging as a two-time NFL receiving yards leader, a one-time NFL touchdown leader, and a one-time NFL receptions leader.Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 as a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and will now be joining the Lions Ring of Honor.Though it's a bit odd that it took the Lions this long to add Johnson to their Ring of Honor, there was some drama that occurred when the receiver walked away from the game. He would not attend any events or show up at games due to the organization making him pay back a $1.6 million signing bonus for his retiring early.This led to friction between Johnson and the organization, but he has since rectified that and has shown up to events and games in 2023. That tension is now gone, and Johnson can join the other elite Detroit players in the Pride of the Lions.
