Caltrans said it’s aiming for a November finish but unforeseen events could delay it.
Caltrans crews will close Niles Canyon Road in Fremont — a section of state Highwway 84 — to repair damage caused by a winter storm.
Repairs to fix a Bay Area highway damaged during a winter storm in February will commence Monday, Caltrans said. Niles Canyon Road, which also operates as state Highway 84 in Fremont between Livermore and Sunol, will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly until the repairs are fixed. Ground under the road deteriorated during the winter storm, causing a portion of the highway to collapse into Alameda Creek. One-way traffic control has been in effect since then.
The repair work will not take place on the weekends. Caltrans said they expect the work to be finished by the end of the year and that they are shooting for an end date of November.Motorists will have to take Interstate 680 when the repair work is being done. One-way traffic control on the highway will continue during the non-working hours.
