SANTA CLARA — A person was taken to a hospital after being hit Saturday afternoon by a Caltrain near the Santa Clara station, according to police and the transit agency.
The collision was reported at about 2:30 p.m. near Main Street, which is north of the station and runs parallel to the tracks for about a half-mile. The injured person’s condition was not immediately released, and why they were in the train’s path is under investigation by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, which performs transit patrol for Caltrain. Santa Clara police and fire personnel initially responded to the accident but deferred to the sheriff’s office and Caltrain for follow-up.
