A pair of boarding houses in the heart of Sydney are being redeveloped into luxury homes. But elderly residents who have lived there for decades fear they have nowhere to go.

80-year-old Sav Durac does not know where he will go when he is evicted from his home of more than five decades in Paddington .Elderly residents at two boarding house s in Paddington are being evicted by developers who plan to turn their homes into luxury apartments.

One of Sav Durac's friends locked himself in his room and didn't come out for more than a week after being served an eviction notice from their Sydney boarding house a fortnight ago. Mr Durac is one of 30 vulnerable residents, all of which are men, who have been in various states of distress after receiving notice from LFD Developments, who plans to turn their homes into four luxury apartments.

It will be a landmark case to decide if state planning laws are adequate to protect affordable housing that is in private hands, but it will not help the Selwyn Street residents.
