Calls for Calm as Sierra Leone Gears up for Crucial Election SierraLeone

Sierra Leoneans go to the polls again on 24 June, in the country's fifth post-conflict electoral contest. For more than two decades following its civil war, Sierra Leone has experienced relatively free and fair multiparty elections.

In a joint statement, members of the international community have raised concerns over election-related violence and aggression across the country in the run up to the elections. Some 3.4 million eligible voters will choose a new president from a list of candidates which includes the incumbent Bio and 12 other contenders - although there are two distinct front runners.
