In a now deleted tweet, Mr Benton said it was 'utterly pathetic' Lancashire Police was looking into Rishi Sunak's failure to wear a seatbelt while driving through the county
candidate in the next general election. Last night Mr Benton took to Twitter to back Rishi Sunak, after the Prime Minister was captured on video not wearing a seatbelt whilst travelling in a moving vehicle.saying they would be "looking into" the matter. However, Mr Benton, who has been the MP for Blackpool South since 2019, took a slightly different approach.
Now, the attention seems to have shifted onto the Blackpool MP, with critics of the politician slamming Mr Benton for his comments. Such a critic is Chris Webb, who has called for the MP to apologise and called his Tweet "disgusting" and "inaccurate". He added: "Officers on the beat are under-resourced and overworked, the 800 job cuts they've had did have a significant impact on them as well."Mr Webb says that it is "wrong" for the MP to "insinuate Blackpool Police are not doing their utmost to tackle crime." This is despite 800 jobs that were cut in the force, with scaled back resources and officers being an issue since 2010.
"He [Scott Benton] has a historic track record for calling out Angela Raynor and Keir Starmer when they have drinks over Covid." Since the Tweet was posted last night, Mr Benton has since deleted it and has rewritten the post, in a slightly different way.
