Victorian Coalition MPs fear they’ve been hung out to dry after their federal colleagues called for the $35 billion project to be axed.
A federal push to withdraw funding from the Suburban Rail Loop has sparked infighting within the Liberals, with state MPs frustrated by the intervention and unhappy about the intervention from their Canberra colleagues.
“They know it’s the wrong priority, and that is why that $2.2 billion from the federal Labor government should immediately go into fixing our road infrastructure, which is crumbling, not into this suburban rail loop.”Victorian Liberal frontbencher Dan Tehan and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.speaking to several who are worried that it leaves the Coalition open to criticism over broken contracts.it was inaccurate to say he believed the project shouldn’t go ahead.
No further federal money has been promised and the national auditor-general in September warned that Victoria’s failure to submit a credible business case was holding back the release of the $2.2 billion.
