Labour wants a taskforce to create an action plan to deal with the expected surge in homeless applications, but the SNP believes the proposal would be 'costly and time consuming'.
A housing taskforce should be set up to deal with rising homelessness in the city, Glasgow Labour has claimed, as it calls for more funding from both the UK and Scottish Governments.
In a motion to a full council meeting on Thursday, she will also ask for “relocatable, modular and prefabricated buildings and other forms of temporary housing” to be considered. Cllr Siddique’s motion states a “homelessness and housing taskforce” should include housing associations and the city’s health and social partnership as well as third sector partners.
“The accelerated asylum process is predicted to add further pressure to an existing housing emergency. Hence it is paramount that Glasgow exhausts all avenues to find more humane housing alternatives to bed and breakfast and more social housing.”
