THE Health Secretary has called for an army of 250,000 volunteers to join the coronavirus frontline.

They will join 11,788 recently retired NHS staff who are returning to the front line to help in efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus, and save lives.A further 24,100 student medics and nurses will also be given the green light to help battle the killer virus. Volunteers who sign up to become an NHS Volunteer Responder can be called on to do simple but vital tasks such as:Making regular phone calls to check on people isolating at homeMr Hancock said: “In these extraordinary times, it’s essential that we all pull together as part of the national effort to protect the most vulnerable, reduce pressures on our NHS and care system and save lives.
