Multiple wildfires are burning across Southern California, forcing evacuations and consuming thousands of acres. CAL FIRE crews are working tirelessly to contain the blazes.

As multiple wildfires rage across Southern California , CAL FIRE crews are battling relentlessly to extinguish flames and protect lives in Los Angeles County . The agency reported on Wednesday that California has already experienced 55 wildfires in the first eight days of 2025, scorching nearly 27,000 acres and tragically claiming two lives. Currently, five active wildfires are burning in California , all located in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The Palisades Fire, which has displaced over 30,000 residents, has consumed 15,832 acres as of Wednesday afternoon. The Eaton Fire, the second-largest blaze, is estimated at 10,600 acres. The Hurst Fire has burned over 500 acres. The Olivas Fire, the smallest of the five and the only one in Ventura County, is estimated at 11 acres. As of Wednesday afternoon, none of these fires were contained. In December, CAL FIRE issued its seasonal weather outlook for early 2025, predicting above-normal temperatures and below-average precipitation through February. CAL FIRE warned that this combination would significantly elevate fire risk, particularly in Southern California. Looking back to 2024, the first wildfire incident handled by CAL FIRE occurred in February. The Palmas Fire burned 239 acres in Riverside County. Throughout 2024, CAL FIRE responded to 8,024 wildfires that charred over one million acres. December of last year saw CAL FIRE battling several fires in Southern and Central California, including the Franklin Fire, which ignited in Malibu on December 9th. Fueled by Santa Ana winds gusting up to 50 mph, this fire underscored the potential for rapid fire spread. Data from 2023 reveals that the first fire of that year occurred in April, four months into the year
