California Target could be charged for reporting theft to police, reports say

Retail theft has grown into a significant issue throughout California.

The Sacramento City Attorney’s Office reportedly threatened to charge a Target location with a public nuisance for repeatedly reporting thefts,The warning also included an administrative fine, someone familiar with the situation told the outlet. Lawmakers reportedly added an amendment to a retail theft bill making such threats illegal.

Both the City Attorney’s Office and the Sacramento Police Department told the publication they were unaware such a threat had been made. Residents living near the Target say the location is not doing enough to combat theft, however, describing it as a “bad neighbor,”Representatives for the city, Sacramento police and Target did not respond to a request for comment from The National Desk Wednesday.

Several individuals in June used to rob a Sunnyvale jewelry store, video acquired by The National Desk showed. The five suspects faced charges for armed robbery, felony vehicle evasion, resisting arrest, burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, vandalism and possession of burglary tools.included cutting nearly $200 million from state efforts related to law enforcement and public safety.
