Temperatures in Sacramento were expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit this week.
For weeks, California water officials have been issuing warnings about rivers as snowmelt created cold, fast-flowing water. Now they are reminding people that river conditions are dangerous as a heat wave grips much of the state.Early Monday morning, an excessive heat warning and excessive heat watch were issued by National Weather Service meteorologists for parts of California, Nevada, Arizona and southern Utah.
The post said Sacramento River temperatures range from 51 to 69 degrees Fahrenheit. When the river temperatures are below 77 degrees, NWS Sacramento warned, breathing can become affected. Breath cannot be regained after losing it when someone is exposed to water between 50 and 60 degrees, and muscle control is lost in only a few minutes.'Even strong swimmers can quickly lose muscle control,' the warning said.
