California lawmakers are proposing a bill that would allow victims of wildfires and insurance companies to sue oil and gas companies for damages caused by climate change. The bill, introduced by two Democratic lawmakers, argues that the oil industry's role in climate change has intensified storms and contributed to wildfires, leading to financial burdens on victims and insurance companies. Supporters say the bill will help stabilize the state's insurance market and hold the fossil fuel industry accountable for its contribution to climate change.
