A firefighter has died battling the massive California wildfire officials said was sparked by a pyrotechnic device used in a gender reveal party, the U.S. Forest Service said Friday, as crews continued to battle nearly 40 blazes throughout the state.Los Angeles Times via Getty ImagesFriday the agency was not releasing details, but confirmed that the firefighter had gone missing and died Thursday while battling the El Dorado Fire in the San Bernardino National Forest, east of Los Angeles.
The El Dorado Fire erupted September 5 from a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device used by a couple to reveal their baby’s gender, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, has said. As of Thursday, the wildfire had burned more than 19,000 acres, caused at least a dozen injuries to fire personnel and civilians, destroyed 10 structures and was about 66% contained, according to Cal Fire.“Our deepest sympathies are with the family, friends and fellow firefighters during this time.”
