An earthquake and an aftershock caused minor damage in a Northern California community and were felt across the highly populated Bay Area Tuesday night.and a 3.9-magnitude aftershock struck just after 6:30 p.m. local time and were centered in Santa Rosa, California, around 50 miles north of San Francisco along the Rodgers Creek fault line, a part of the San Andreas fault system.
Photos from Santa Rosa showed items knocked off shelves, cracked walls and other minor damage. The Santa Rosa Fire DepartmentRenowned seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones said that the fault line where the quake happened hasn't had a big earthquake since the 18th century. The last moderate earthquake on the faultsent out alerts to people in San Francisco more than 18 seconds before the earthquake hit.
