FILE: Shasta County sheriff's deputies allegedly drove over 500 miles to seize a goat from a Sonoma County farm.A California mother has filed a lawsuit against several different Shasta County institutions over the slaughtering of her 9-year-old daughter’s pet goat.in August against multiple sheriff's deputies; the lawsuit was amended last month to include the Shasta District Fair and Event Center , the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department and Shasta County.
“Plaintiff E.L. loved Cedar and the thought of him going to slaughter was something she could not bear. While sobbing in his pen beside him, Plaintiff E.L. communicated to her mother she didn’t want Cedar to go to slaughter,” the lawsuit states. According to the lawsuit, the livestock manager of the Shasta Fair Association then called Long and said that she would be charged with the felony crime of grand theft if Cedar was not returned to the fair association to be slaughtered.
