The contractor began installing high tension median cable this week on northbound Interstate 81 in Dauphin County and will continue working there during daylight hours for two to three weeks before continuing on I-81 in Lebanon and Cumberland counties, then Route 30 in York County, and finally Route 30 and Route 222 in Lancaster County.
Work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with left shoulder closures, as needed, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.This project includes the installation of approximately 29 miles of high-tension cable barrier in the median of Interstate 81 in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lebanon counties, Route 30 in Lancaster and York counties, and Route 222 in Lancaster County.
Work last year included roadway borings and testing for high-tension cable barrier end anchor terminals, a press release said. This year from March to October, the contractor drilled and filled the line post and end anchors and installed guide rail. Cable median barriers are life-saving traffic devices for use in existing medians to prevent cross-over crashes. They are one of the most effective safety measures deployed to protect motorists on highways.Green Acres Contracting Co., Inc., is the contractor on this $5.2 million project.. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
