The Texans are the team the Jaguars will have to keep their eyes on for the foreseeable future.
A year ago, the Jaguars were the threat. They were a thorn in the side of the Tennessee Titans, refusing to die over the second-half of the season and eventually overtaking them in Week 18 despite being two games behind the Titans through Week 9.
The biggest thing going for the 4-4 Texans is rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, the No. 2 overall pick. Stroud's evolved play for a rookie quarterback is why the Texans are the Jaguars' biggest threat not just in 2023, but also beyond. Just yesterday, Stroud broke the single-game passing yard record for a rookie quarterback that was previously set by Andrew Luck in 2012, passing for 470 yards, and also five touchdowns, during a 39–37 comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Add in a clear homerun hire in DeMeco Ryans, and the Texans seemed to have found their franchise quarterback, head coach and franchise pass-rusher all in one offseason. That is how you jumpstart a franchise.
