Pete Buttigieg said he isn’t taking “lectures on family values” from Rush Limbaugh, chiding conservative figures who have attacked his homosexuality

Pete Buttigieg said on Sunday he isn’t taking “lectures on family values” from Rush Limbaugh, chiding conservative figures who have attacked the Democratic presidential candidate over his homosexuality.

The Democratic presidential candidate defended his marriage during an interview with host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” saying that America has “moved on” from the idea that a person who identifies as LGBTQ can’t become president.“I'm proud of my marriage. And I'm proud of my husband,” Buttigieg said. “And I am saddened for what the Republican Party has become if they embrace that kind of homophobic rhetoric.

Limbaugh, who recently received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump, suggested that Buttigieg’s youth and same-sex marriage could be an issue for voters in November if he were to secure the Democratic nomination. “A gay guy, 37-years-old, loves kissing his husband on debate stages,” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “Can you see Trump have fun with that?”

Another Trump supporter, Sebastian Gorka, criticized Buttigieg last week for talking about abortion rights.Sign UpBy signing up you agree to receive email newsletters or alerts from POLITICO. You can unsubscribe at any time. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google
