Officials in north Alabama are responding to the fallout from social media posts claiming migrants are being secretly bused into cities there.
The posts and comments touched off a series of public statements from officials attempting to answer questions and allay fears. In a statement through a spokesperson, poultry processor Pilgrim’s Pride said, in response to the questions, that it will no longer use charter buses. However, it says the workers are meeting legal employment standards.
State Rep. Brock Colvin , said he was told by Pilgrim’s that it had been using vans for transport but had recently switched to charter buses.saying they wanted to “make it abundantly clear that Albertville is not a sanctuary city, has never received funding to harbor individuals from any country, nor have any of our elected officials been involved in such activities.”
“Our school systems are struggling to accommodate the growth of our classrooms in the midst of a teacher shortage,” he wrote. “Our law enforcement officers are burdened with the influx of additional people pouring into our communities.” “We will not support or condone any narrative or discourse that seeks to marginalize individuals in our community based on their race or ethnicity.
