Canning Street is closed between Princess Way and and Active Way

Police have closed off a busy road in Burnley after a person was hit by a car.

Emergency services are currently at the scene on Canning Street, near to Burnley College and Burnley Central train station. Officers have shut the road in both directions between the junctions of Princess Way and Active Way. The collision happened shortly after 9am today . No details have been released about injuries and drivers are being urged to 'avoid the area'.

In a statement, Burnley and Padiham Police said: "Good morning, officers are on scene and dealing with a road traffic collision on Canning Street in Burnley. The road has been closed for its full length in both directions between the junctions of Princess Way and Active Way.Traffic alert service Inrix reports:

Canning Street in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident from B6434 Princess Way to A679 Active Way.
