Vehicle access to the remote site of the counter-culture festival has been closed due to the conditions.

Thousands of Burning Man attendees were forced to trudge through mud – many barefoot or wearing plastic bags on their feet – as flooding from storms swept through the Nevada desert.

Vehicle gates will be closed for the remainder of the event, which began on August 27 and was scheduled to end on Monday, according to the US Bureau of Land Management, which oversees the Black Rock Desert where the festival is being held. Officials have not yet said when the entrance is expected to be opened again, and it was not immediately known when celebrants could leave the grounds.
