A group of burglars went on a crime spree on Christmas Eve, targeting a GameStop and a family restaurant in San Leandro, California. Police are investigating the incident.
A group of burglars broke into GameStop early Christmas Eve morning, stealing gaming consoles from the Fashion Faire shopping center before heading to Elio's Family Restaurant to take liquor, food – including high-priced and hard-to-find eggs – and cash, San Leandro police said. Lt. Abraham Teng said that burglary at GameStop at 15100 Hesperian Blvd. was reported about 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Video at the scene showed a pickup truck backed up into the window of the video gaming store, glass shattered all over the floor and sidewalk. When the police arrived, they found two suspect cars leaving the shopping center. Officers started chasing them, which ended after one of the suspect's cars crashed into another driver near the intersection of Hesperian and 150th Avenue. No one was injured, Teng said. Two people got out of that car and one of them was arrested by police, Teng said.The other suspect and the second suspect car were not found, he added.Police also found a third suspect vehicle – Teng said he presumes it's the one used to ram into GameStop, because the pickup was left behind at the gaming store. Teng said the suspects stole 'numerous' gaming consoles from GameStop. While conducting the GameStop investigation, officers also discovered that the same group of suspects had allegedly burglarized Elio's Family Restaurant at 260 Florest Blvd. Teng said the suspects allegedly stole liquor, $3,000 and food, including several crates of eggs-- some of which were found in the disabled suspect vehicle.Eggs are at a premium nationwide right now, as the bird flu has been affecting the production of millions of poultry eggs and their prices.Some egg brands are selling for $11 a carton at Bay Area groceries, and Trader Joe's has an extremely limited supply.
