Bulls reaffirm status as SA’s undisputed Covid-era champs
With fly half Johan Goosen missing due to Covid-19 and Springbok prop Thomas du Toit adding much-needed weight to the Sharks’ scrum, there had been hope that the visitors from Durban could spring an upset not too dissimilar to their taking the Bulls to extra time in the previous final.
The most noticeable thing at the start was the visitors’ approach, which was seemingly to run the ball at all costs, if the 12-phase run they went on after getting the ball in their hands for the first time was anything to go by. In all fairness, the Bulls’ defence got a leg up from the Sharks’ running with ball in hand, which was often too deep and an exercise in shovelling the ball on to the next man.
