The Vodacom Blue Bulls powered to an impressive 30-25 win over DHL Western Province in their opening Currie Cup clash of the season in torrential conditions at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday afternoon.
The rain poured down throughout the match, making for very difficult conditions, but that didn’t stop both teams from battling out an entertaining back and forth encounter, which the Bulls essentially controlled from the start.
Van Der Walt added the conversion and slotted a 33rd minute penalty to give the Bulls a decent 13-5 lead which they took into the halftime break. In the 55th minute Mathee finally slotted his first kick, a penalty from close range to cut the deficit to just three points.
