The incident sent the school into lockdown mode.
No students were injured, according to Virgil Sheppard, president of Hope Partnership for Education, a private middle school and adult education center.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. The bullet entered a second-floor classroom of the building on North 11th Street, according to Sheppard. The school went into lockdown mode after it happened. Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore told the Inquirer that about 50 shots were fired outside the school, but no one was injured. A SEPTA bus had also been hit by gunfire, he said.
