As the Phoenix area flirts with a record for consecutive days of 110 degrees or above, high school football teams are heading to cooler temperatures.

With excessive heat warnings in the Valley continuing in July, many high school football teams are taking the time to get away and work out in a cooler climate.

It takes a lot of planning, money and community help to make it happen. Funds often come through boosters, raising funds through car washes, golf tournaments and other fundraisers. "We're using the words 'relentless' and 'scrappy,'"Ortiz said."That will be the Puma way moving forward." "Goals are to help create team chemistry, create toughness, keep working on our Xs and Os scheme," Hill said."Team bonding and competition are the main things for this camp. Buiding trust and getting to know each other."

Coach Chris McDonald has some big pieces to replace on the offensive line and on defense, but he'll have them ready with replenished talent. Having quarterback Demond Williams Jr., and the leadership he'll bring for his fourth summer camp with the Bears will be huge."We practice at our facilities at Chandler High School," coach Rick Garretson said.
