Most Australians are happy for the value of their homes to fall to make housing more affordable, a new Q+A/YouGov poll finds, with voters giving their verdict on policy solutions.
A new Q+A/YouGov poll reveals Australians would welcome a property market fall to make housing more affordable.
A national YouGov poll of 1,526 Australians reveals scepticism that housing supply and affordability will improve — even while most of us significantly underestimate how difficult saving for a loan deposit has become. YouGov public data director Paul Smith says the new polling shows "Australians want big change and are looking to the government to intervene".
The opposition's proposal to allow first home buyers to dip into superannuation savings also has the support of about six in 10 surveyed — including a majority of Labor voters. They also overwhelmingly believe future generations will find it even more difficult to afford their own home, according to the YouGov survey.
A childcare worker on $61,000 annual income would need to save for 31 years to raise the 20 per cent deposit on an average $742,000 home.
