The Bills have a complete roster and play disciplined football in all three phases of the game. They don’t have any real strengths, other than their playmaking quarterback, but they also don’t have any real weaknesses. This will be the 3rd test of the season for Mike Macdonald. The first two tests against the Lions and 49ers were failures, but defensive injuries played a role in both, this time the Seahawks are relatively healthy.
On offense the Bills are versatile and aggressive; they have just about every formation and scheme in their arsenal and run them effectively. Their offensive line gets good push in the run game and they have a very effective"tush push", almost always converting in short yardage. They like to run heavy in 21 & 12 personnel and they regularly bring in a 3rd tackle. When passing the Bills almost always send a receiver deep, usually two, and Allen will take his shots.
On defense the Bills are very assignment sound but lack size in the front seven and speed in the secondary to be dominant. Injuries to their top two linebackers, their #2 DT, and the suspension of Von Miller are all significant and create vulnerabilities. Their front seven can be moved in the run game and they especially have trouble staying with faster backs.
The Seahawks receivers, along with tight end Noah Fant, will be able to use their superior athleticism to create space in Buffalo’s coverage. Walker’s explosiveness will open up the play action passing attack and the Seahawks will hit enough big plays to Lockett and JSN to supplement the absence of Metcalf. Geno will play smart football to not feed Buffalo’s +10 turnover margin and match the excellent quarterback play of Allen.
Buffalo will move the ball behind their offensive line and the legs of Allen when things break down. The addition of Jones IV in the middle will be enough to force the Bills into passing on 3rd down and in the redzone enough to allow the Seahawks to capitalize. The Seahawks pass rush will stay disciplined and do enough to disrupt Allen and keep the Bills out of the endzone on most of their possessions.
