BuCor welcomes planned penal summit

THE Bureau of Corrections on Friday welcomed a projected summit by the Department of Justice on the country’s penology system, saying it may hasten the release of qualified prisoners.

The BuCor chief also cited an initiative of the Supreme Court to establish new policies meant to expedite the processing of criminal cases and the release of qualified PDLs. BuCor, under Catapang’s administration, has so far set free a total of 6,322 PDLs under the “Bilis Laya” program.
