From the January 1970 issue of HOT ROD: A 240-inch-wheelbase dragster from Ed Pink, by way of Long, Hanna, Cerny, and Kelly.
When Chrysler dealer Ray Luckey of Terrell, Texas, got the urge to go dragging, he did the deed in true Texas style. If that pot of gold on the cowl and the cascade of coins down to the nose suggest a spare-no-expense effort, you're right. About $35,000 will put you in this rig with a spare engine and super-deluxe trailer thrown in. Chassis Builder of the Year, Don Long, and the Old Master,, teamed up to build Ray a machine that's probably the world's fanciest fueler.
Power is transmitted to the Halibrand-mounted Goodyear slicks via Forgedtrue pistons with Pink rings on M/T rods and a Moldex crank turning a Hurst/Schiefer clutch and flywheel assembly. The rear end housing is a Chrysler unit chopped by Long to 27 inches and equipped with Olds housing ends to carry the Hurst/Airheart disc brakes.
