Next Steps Programs, a Bucks County non-profit, is raising $4 million to purchase a property and transform it into a residential and retail building for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project aims to address the lack of housing and employment solutions for this population in Pennsylvania.
A new initiative in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is aiming to redefine inclusion and opportunity for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The nonprofit organization 'Next Steps Programs' is dedicated to empowering these individuals, but they need your help to make their ambitious vision a reality. They are working to raise $4 million by the end of February to purchase and renovate a piece of property into a residential and retail building.
This unique space will provide a home and employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who often age out of the system without adequate job training or long-term family care. \The property, located near the train station in Doylestown, was previously on the market for development into single-family homes. However, Mike Moyer, a fourth-generation business owner and whose family owns the property, saw a better use for the space. He partnered with Josh Fields, the executive director of the eight-year-old nonprofit Next Steps Programs, who has a long history of working with individuals with disabilities and a vision to create a supportive community. Fields recognized the lack of housing and employment solutions for people with disabilities across Pennsylvania and wanted to fill that gap in Bucks County. \The project is deeply personal for Fields, whose middle school friend, Meghan Kensil, who has Down syndrome, now works at the Next Steps Programs office and aspires to live independently. Kensil's success story highlights the potential of the program to empower individuals with disabilities. To bridge the gap between vision and reality, Next Steps Programs needs your help.
