The Sweden v Belgium match was abandoned halfway through as authorities worked to track down the still-at-large shooter
Two Swedish nationals have been shot dead in central Brussels in a suspected terrorist incident – with the shooter reported to have fled the scene.
Ilse van de Keere, a spokeswoman for Belgian police, confirmed the two victims were Swedish and local media suggested both victims were wearing Sweden shirts at the time. Uefa said it decided to abandon the match “following a suspected terrorist attack” after “consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities”. The Swedish team reportedly requested the match be abandoned at halftime, to which Belgium agreed.
