UPDATE: Evacuation warnings issued during BorderFire21 have been lifted, per CALFIRESANDIEGO
Cal Fire San Diego said the Border 21 Fire that started on the Mexico side on Wednesday made its way into the Tecate, California, area on Thursday afternoon.
The blaze had charred about four acres on the U.S. side as of Friday morning, but it had the potential to burn 2,000 acres, according to Cal Fire San Diego officials. Due to the fire’s proximity to structures, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department issued an evacuation warning for parts of the Grapevine Truck Trail and Tecate Truck Trail in Potrero. A temporary evacuation point was established at Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley.
Just after 1:30 p.m. Friday, Cal Fire officials said evacuation warnings associated with the fire were lifted.The cause of the fire is unknown.
