The verité documentary film, shot by Thom Zimny at Springsteen’s Colts Neck, New Jersey, home recording studio, will feature a “behind the scenes” look at Springsteen's creative process and “full performances” from the E Street Band.
“ ‘Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You’ captures Springsteen recording ‘Letter To You’ live with the full E Street Band, and includes final take performances of 10 originals from the new record,” according to an Apple news release. “I love the emotional nature of ‘Letter To You,’"said Springsteen previously in a statement. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.”
The album includes nine recently written Springsteen songs, as well as new recordings of three previously unreleased songs from the ’70s: “Janey Needs a Shooter,” “If I Was the Priest” and “Song for Orphans.” The new movie is produced Jon Landau and Zimny, co-produced by Barbara Carr and executive produced by Springsteen.
