Johni Broome’s shoulder injury earlier in the week did not slow down the Auburn big from another dominant performance.
With Broome’s announcement coming just 20 minutes before tipoff, his shoulder was not as comfortable postgame following his 29 minutes played.“It’s a little sore, but I was expecting that,” Broome said. “We’ve got a couple days off, so I’m going to rehab it and rest it, and see how I feel the next game.”His top of the key 3-pointer sent the raucous Auburn crowd into a frenzy, giving him the confidence boost for the rest of the afternoon.
“We actually kind of got on him, and he right away responded, ‘I got you,’” Pearl said. “He played great defense the rest of the night.” “I mean, he made it really clear from the beginning he was playing, but I had to hear that from Dr. Goodlett and Dr. Emblom, and when Dr. Emblom, again, told me last night, and I quote, ‘If he was playing football for Auburn, he’d be on the field today. He’s at no risk for further injury,‘” Pearl said.
“I didn’t feel any pressure at all. It was my decision, and I just really went off my body, how my body felt. I didn’t need to play this game because I knew my teammates -- they told me all week they had my back. They wanted me to play with them, but they didn’t want me to rush back,” Broome said. “I was able to practice and give it a go. I came out today for shootaround, and it still felt pretty stable. I just wanted to go out there and play for my team, for the Auburn family, and give my all.
