At long last, Bruce Banner may have found a way to separate himself from the Hulk for good. Since the Hulk’s first appearance over 60 years ago, Bruce Banner has sought a way to rid himself of his green-skinned alter ego. Recently, the tension between Banner and the Hulk has escalated to nearly all-out war, and in The Incredible Hulk #5, Bruce may have found a way to escape the Hulk.
The Incredible Hulk #5 is written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and drawn by Travel Foreman. After meeting with the Man-Thing in the Nexus of All Realities, a battered Bruce Banner is confronted by his former lover Betty. Turning into her Harpy form, she tells Bruce she is here on behalf of the “Eldest,” who want the Hulk for themselves. In making her case, Betty tells Bruce that the Hulk is slowly erasing him and asks how many transformations will it take for the Hulk to fully seize control.
The Hulk Has Gone In a Horrific New Direction Marvel recently relaunched The Incredible Hulk with a horror/dark fantasy tone. The Mother of Horrors, an ancient creature of unspeakable evil, has returned, setting her sights on the Hulk. To help in her war against the Jade Giant, she has enlisted the help of Earth’s monsters, including Ghost Rider and Harpy.
The Hulk is Escalting His War Against Banner The struggle between Banner and the Hulk has driven the character since his first appearance in 1962. At times, Banner and the Hulk have coexisted peacefully and at other times they have been at each other’s throats. In the recent Incredible Hulk run, the monster has been inflicting horrendous and painful transformations on Banner.
