The Browns have requested an interview with Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde for their head coach vacancy.

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde talks to players as they walk off during halftime during an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Rams, Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, in Seattle. They’ve requested an interview with a defensive coordinator who was born and raised in Middlesex, England.

It’s Aden Durde, the defensive coordinator for the dominant Seahawks defense, which is No. 6 overall, No. 3 against the run, and No. 10 against the pass. It’s the second known request the Browns have made to replace Kevin Stefanski. The first was Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, the former Browns coordinator from 2019. Durde’s NFL coaching career began humbly — he entered the league as a Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship intern with the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 and 2015. He then joined the Atlanta Falcons, initially through the same fellowship and later as a full-time defensive quality control coach in 2018, making history as the first British-born full-time coach in NFL history. By 2020 he was coaching outside linebackers for the Falcons, further establishing his defensive credentials.Browns request interview with Todd Monken, their former OC and current Ravens coordinator, for their head coach vacancyIn January 2021, Durde returned to Dallas as defensive line coach under coordinator Dan Quinn, contributing to a consistently top-10 scoring defense over three seasons. In February 2024, he took another historic step as defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks under head coach Mike Macdonald — becoming the first British-born coach to hold that title in the NFL. Durde’s journey from London amateur leagues to NFL defensive coordinator underscores both his individual tenacity and the growing internationalization of America’s most popular sport. Durde, 46, first fell in love with American football as a youngster in North London — a rarity in a country dominated by soccer and rugby — and began his career playing linebacker for local clubs including the London Olympians before carving out six seasons in NFL Europe with the Scottish Claymores and Hamburg Sea Devils. During that time he also spent brief stints on the practice squads of the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs, experiences that offered early taste of the league he would later coach in. After hanging up his cleats, Durde returned to the UK as defensive coordinator of the London Warriors, where he spent six seasons honing his coaching chops. He also served as head of football development at NFLUK, playing a pivotal role in creating pathways for international talent and helping launch the International Player Pathway Program aimed at giving non-U.S. athletes a clearer route into the NFL.Mary Kay Cabot has more than 30 years experience covering the Cleveland Browns for The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com, and became only the second female in Pro Football Hall of Fame history to win the Bill Nunn...
