CLEVELAND, Ohio — The 49ers front office has built a star-studded offense from top to bottom. These talented players are then developed and put in the best position for success by head coach Kyle Shanahan and staff. Along with his ability develop players, Shanahan is a brilliant play designer who has built a culture of accountability, physicality, and selflessness, that makes the 49ers Super Bowl favorites this season.
When watching the 49ers offense on film, they shift, trade, and display a variety of fast, explosive motions. This movement from the offense creates positive blocking angles, along with a number advantage in the run game. In the pass game, the motions open clear windows for Purdy to make easy throws.
Below is a look at how the 49ers use play action to create huge windows in the pass game. Juszczyk and right guard Spencer Burford, will pull to their left to make it look like a traditional power run play. This action will pull up the second level of the Arizona defense and create a huge void on the sideline. The play results in a 25-yard gain for Aiyuk.
Below is an example of using Samuel in the red zone during the 49ers’ convincing 42-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Samuel will line up in the backfield making him the fourth receiver to the strong side. This alignment creates a mismatch with Samuel and Cowboy linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.
