Ward, who injured the foot during Thursday’s final minicamp practice at FirstEnergy Stadium, underwent an MRI and X-rays, and the tests revealed no serious structural damage.Ward, who became the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL in April when he signed a five-year extension worth $100.5 million, walked off the practice field midway through the session, took off his left cleat and had his foot checked on the bench by a trainer. He pointed to the outside of his left foot as the area of concern.
After a few minutes, he walked slowly to the locker room on his own and didn’t return. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said after practice he didn’t have enough details to provide an update. A source also told cleveland.com that fellow cornerback Greedy Williams’ absence from practice the past week has been because of a sprained ankle. After Ward left the field, third-round pick Martin Emerson got the bulk of the first-team reps opposite Greg Newsome II. A.J. Green also saw time.
