Terrence Walker and Gerald Bonds met in person for the very first time on May 24. They were able to find each other through 23andMe.

CONYERS, Ga. — It was an encounter over 50 years in the making. It all started with a Father's Day gift three years ago. Patrice Walker discovered a company called, which offers DNA testing. The 48-year-old bought the kit and gifted it to her husband, Terrence Walker -- knowing that he had a strong desire to find out more about his biological paternal family.

"I slow-poked. I'm guilty. I slow-poked. It took me about three weeks to actually go on there and look," she said. The man later responded and said he wasn't aware he had any family in Georgia, but it turned out that Terrence was his uncle. Within a few days period between when the Walkers reached out, the man's father had gotten his test results.

And then, last Friday, the newly-found brothers got to meet each other in person for the first time. Gerald and his wife traveled from Virginia to meet the Walkers to help celebrate after one of their children graduated high school. "It was a lot of emotions," Patrice said."It was very heartwarming, and more so glad that my husband was able to make that connection with somebody from his paternal side.
