A woman is dead after she was shot in the head during an argument outside a gas station in southeast Houston and police are searching for her brother in connection to the crime.

– Police said when they arrived at the scene, they located a woman with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency officials with the HPD identified the victim as Sarah Taplin, 24. Her brother, Richard Taplin, 35, is currently wanted and has been charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carry of a weapon.

HPD says Sarah Taplin was in an argument with another woman in a parking lot. Richard Taplin allegedly took a gun from someone nearby, pointed it at the unidentified woman and fired it at her as she ran away. HPD says Richard Taplin was also firing indiscriminately into the crowded gas station parking lot across the street. During the shooting, HPD said Sarah Taplin was struck at least once. She died from her injuries and Richard fled the scene. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 222-TIPS.Holly joined the KPRC 2 digital team in March 2024, leveraging her eight years of expertise in blogging and digital content to share her passion for Houston.
