Those who thought Bafana Bafana was playing their international friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo away from home can be forgiven.
While DRC fans created a buzzing atmosphere at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, the image was in sharp contrast to the empty stands that greeted Bafana in their goalless draw against Namibia, which was also at the Soweto venue last Saturday.First of all, I had a feeling we played another [good] game today. It’s a little bit disappointing that, again, when you see today in the stadium, there were more supporters for Congo than for us. So I hope in the future that we’ll have more support.
The continuous poor turnout at Bafana home matches, in Johannesburg in particular, must give Safa some food for thought even though the association claimed they were marketing the matches.In March this year Bafana also played in front of a near-empty Orlando Stadium in their Afcon qualifier against Liberia.
