Not only was the main gym updated with new ADA-friendly bleachers, backboards, ceiling, acoustic panels and HVAC, as well as a refinished floor and security enhancements added, the second phase scheduled for later this year involves redoing science labs, renovating the auditorium music wing and replacing windows.
Courtesy of Brooklyn City Schoolsmaster facility plan update. “I update the Board of Education two or three times a year in terms of the progress that we’re making,” Brooklyn City Schools Superintendent/CEO Theodore Caleris said. “Basically, we met in February to report on the status of our renovations and really just kind of determine the next steps moving forward.” The current master facility plan, which began roughly a handful of years, continues to include new areas of focus. “This is an ongoing plan that, really, I don’t anticipate ever stopping,” he said. “Part of this master facility plan is to do these renovations in a responsible and fiscally appropriate way for the community. “So as we go through this next phase, we will begin to start planning for what happens after the summer of 2027.” The superintendent said he has a few projects in mind when looking ahead to modernize Brooklyn High School.“With this round of renovations, we’ll have about 60% new air-conditioning at the high school. “We will also be looking at finishing up some interior renovations in classrooms, as well as installing a softball field at the athletic complex.”“Really, the goal will be how can we be fiscally responsible to complete some of those projects,” he said. “As we get closer to the spring and summer of 2027, we’ll start having more realistic conversations about what those facility upgrades look like.”
