Brook Park City Council unanimously approved an ordinance on Sept. 2 to pursue a GameTime grant and replace aging playground equipment at McGovern Park.

A new playground is planned for McGovern Park after Brook Park City Council approved an emergency ordinance Sept. 2 to pursue grant funding for the project. BROOK PARK , Ohio — Brook Park is moving forward with plans to replace aging playground equipment at McGovern Park .

City Council on Sept. 2 unanimously approved an ordinance as an emergency measure, allowing the city to apply for a grant and begin the project immediately. The exhibit presented to council prices the McGovern Park project at $175,198.08 before a $63,703.76 GameTime grant discount. After the discount and including a $4,025.65 materials surcharge and $2,000 freight fee, the total comes to $117,519.97, according to the quote included with the ordinance. Mayor Edward Orcutt said during council’s caucus meeting before the vote that the project continues the city’s broader push to modernize neighborhood parks and take advantage of outside funding sources. “As everyone knows, we’ve had great playgrounds in the city of Brook Park for decades now, and our stuff is a little bit aged,” Orcutt said. “We need to get into this replacement program, which we started a few years ago. We’ve had great success with grant money through GameTime. And we just finished up Carpenter Park over on Sheldon Road. That was our second one that we installed.” Orcutt noted that the legislation only approves the city spending $117,519.97 and that it would allow Brook Park to “get in line for the grant.” Council members said the investment reflects a broader effort to modernize Brook Park’s recreational spaces and provide families with high-quality amenities. “I’m proud to support this project and am incredibly proud of the investments we’re making in our parks and playgrounds across the city,” Councilman Tom Dufour told the. “These improvements underscore our commitment to providing safe and fun places for our youngest residents and are just one of the many ways we’re remaining focused on keeping Brook Park a great community for kids and families.” The ordinance notes the McGovern Park project would include ADA multi-use playground equipment and new safety surfacing. The city will handle the removal of the old equipment and site preparation. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
