A Bronx man has been charged with murder after police arrested him for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in her West Harlem apartment building this week. NYPD officials said they took 41-year-old Luis Marquez into custody Tuesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of 47-year-old Carmen Lopez.
The brutal attackPolice said they responded to the building on West 129th Street near St. Nicholas Terrace around 4:30 a.m. and found Lopez with multiple stab wounds. First responders took her to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Residents said Lopez lived with several of her children. Marquez lives in Highbridge, according to the NYPD. Neighbor Ronald Spry told Gothamist he saw blood “all up and down the staircase” from the building’s third floor to the lobby.
