Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton sent a message to the Pittsburgh Steelers about Justin Fie;ds
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields warms up before an NFL football game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, in Atlanta. Sean Payton is not about to let Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields beat them on the ground. The Broncos head coach said that he has respect for Fields’ capabilities on the ground, and stated that the Broncos, a week after allowing 146 rushing yards to the Seattle Seahawks, need to do a better job of defending the run this week.
Fields will provide a unique challenge with the Steelers’ gameplan, however, to run the ball and control throughout the game. They effectively did that against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1, having 36 minutes of possession through success on the ground. That efficient offense, paired with a few explosive plays through the air, was more than enough to win the game. However, Payton says the Broncos will treat Fields like a running back while they are defending him.
"Making sure we’re fitting that the right way. Build on the things that we did well, and then, obviously, we’re playing someone this week who’s very mobile. So I think when we talk about”Making sure we’re fitting that the right way. Build on the things that we did well, and then, obviously, we’re playing someone this week who’s very mobile. So I think when we talk about defending the run, that includes the quarterback this week like a running back,” Payton said.
Fields had 14 rushes for 57 yards against the Falcons in Week 1, but he has done far more damage on the ground in the past. The Steelers and Fields never hit the big one in Week 1, but there will be opportunities, especially with new right tackle Troy Fautanu likely getting the starting nod., where our team of sports betting experts has reviewed the experience, payout speed, parlay options and quality of odds for multiple sportsbooks.
