The Denver Broncos attempted a trick play early in the second quarter against the Buffalo Bills, but it ultimately failed to spark a comeback. Despite a strong start by rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the Bills dominated possession and secured a 10-7 victory.
Unfortunately for them, it was all for naught. Coach Sean Payton pulled the trick play out of his back pocket early in the second quarter of Sunday’s wild-card clash against the Bills as the Broncos , trailing by three, faced a fourth-and-8 from their own 43-yard line. Punter Riley Dixon, a former Giant, then took a step forward as if he were about to punt, only to throw it to a wide-open Marvin Mims Jr. for a 15-yard gain and a first down.
The Broncos, however, could not take advantage with a fresh set of downs at the Buffalo 42-yard line and Dixon punted four plays later, with none other than Mims Jr. downing the ball at the 1-yard line. Denver got off to a flying start, as rookie quarterback Bo Nix threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Troy Franklin on the first drive of the game to give the visitors a 7-0 lead. The Bills, though, took a 10-7 lead into halftime in Orchard Park after dominating possession and mostly stifling the Broncos offense.
